"Near Clapp Pond"
Autobiography
Constance Black
I was born and raised in East Walpole, MA. After I graduated from high school I attended Vesper George School of Art for three years. After art school I came to Provincetown to study at the Cape School of Art under Henry Hensche. At the end of the summer I married my husband Carl Black and moved to Boston briefly before returning to Provincetown. I became influenced by the Hans Hoffman school through Jim Forsberg who was a major influence. At that time I exhibited regularly at the Provincetown Art Assoc. and Museum, the Front St. Gallery started by Salvatore Del Deo, and later the first Provincetown Group Gallery. In 1975 we moved to the Washington DC area while keeping our house in Provincetown. In 1987 we retired back to Provincetown. Since then I have been active on the art scene, starting the Visual Artist's Cooperative and the Winter Space Gallery at the Art Association as well as exhibiting extensively in several galleries. I am a member of the Pen & Brush in New York and have received several awards including a solo show of my prints. Through the years I attended several printing workshops at FAWC and the Art Assoc. and have taught watercolor at the Art Assoc. Also a poet I have produced four books of poetry illustrated by myself as well as short plays and short stories. Two of my plays were produced by the Provincetown Theatre Workshop.
Below are links to my web site which include my art work in several mediums including oil, acrylic watercolor, oil, and monoprints, monotypes and etchings. There also is a section devoted to poetry including guest poets.
